Frequently Asked Questions
How much smaller will my FLAC files be as MP3?
FLAC files are typically 20–60% the size of raw WAV, but still much larger than MP3. A 3-minute FLAC song is usually 15–25MB. The same song as a 128kbps MP3 is around 3MB — roughly 80–90% smaller.
Will I hear a quality difference between FLAC and 128kbps MP3?
In controlled blind listening tests, most people cannot reliably distinguish a high-quality MP3 (192kbps+) from FLAC. At 128kbps, some people with trained ears and high-end equipment may detect differences in complex passages. For everyday listening through headphones or speakers, 128–192kbps MP3 is excellent.
Does my browser support FLAC decoding?
Chrome, Firefox, and Edge all support FLAC decoding via the Web Audio API. Safari has limited support. If conversion fails, try Chrome or Firefox.
Should I keep my original FLAC files?
Yes, if storage allows. FLAC is a lossless archival format — converting to MP3 discards audio data permanently. Keep FLAC as your master copy and use MP3 for playback on devices where storage is tight.
Are my FLAC files uploaded anywhere?
No. FLAC decoding and MP3 encoding both happen inside your browser using the Web Audio API. Your files never touch a server.
