The idea: Instead of deleting photos and videos to free space, compress them. Same memories, 50–80% smaller files. Everything stays in your Photos library, organized the same way.
Compress iPhone Photos & Videos Without a Mac
You can compress your iPhone media directly on the device — no Mac, no computer required. Here's what's possible natively and what the MediaOptim Mobile app adds.
Compress videos on iPhone
A 1-minute 4K video is 400 MB. At 1080p HEVC it's 30 MB. You can re-encode videos to take up 80–90% less space without any visible quality difference on a phone screen.
- Share via Mail → choose "Small" or "Medium" (fast, but only sends — doesn't save)
- Shortcuts app → "Encode Media" action → saves compressed copy to Camera Roll
- MediaOptim Mobile → batch compress, H.265, keeps originals until confirmed
Compress photos on iPhone
iPhone photos in HEIC format are already reasonably efficient. But if you have thousands, compression can still recover 20–40% of space.
- Settings → Camera → Formats → "High Efficiency" (HEIC instead of JPEG — smaller by default)
- MediaOptim Mobile → compress entire photo library in batch
- Export photos at lower resolution when quality isn't critical
MediaOptim Mobile — batch compress on device
The built-in iOS methods work for single files but are tedious for large libraries. MediaOptim Mobile lets you compress your entire camera roll in one go — photos, videos, or both. Processes on-device (nothing uploaded). Originals kept until you confirm.
