Frequently Asked Questions

How does blur detection work?

This tool uses the Laplacian variance method, which detects edges in an image. Blurry images have fewer sharp edges, resulting in lower variance scores. A score below 100 typically indicates blur.

What is a good blur score?

Scores above 150 indicate a sharp image. 100-150 is acceptable. Below 100 suggests the image is blurry. Below 50 is very blurry.

Why are my photos blurry?

Common causes: camera shake, subject motion, autofocus failure, low light (slow shutter), dirty lens, or intentional soft focus.

Can I fix blurry photos?

Slightly blurry photos can be sharpened in photo editors, but severely blurry images cannot be fully recovered. Prevention (steady hands, tripod, good light) is better than fixing.
